I came up with the idea of A Social Justice Colouring Book because my style of artwork lends itself well to this format and because colouring, for me, is a meditative experience that allows my brain to tune out distractions and process information. I will often colour during important conversations, so I can retain information more effectively. Since I would like to see people become more aware of social justice issues, I figured that would be an important topic to focus on. I created 20 pages with each page dedicated to a different major world issue. My intention is not to tell you how to think, but rather to depict the issues in a raw, realistic, and symbolic way. This book contains a brief description of each page, to give you a starting point, and, through the colouring process, you will have time to reflect on how you feel about each issue and form your own stance.
