On Friday July 24th, 2020, my husband asked me, “Can we talk?” This was a question that only I had ever asked.
He proceeded to tell me he wanted to dress as a woman, hair, makeup, clothes, shoes, everything. He wanted to do this part time and referred to it as “cross dressing.” Eventually, he adopted the gender identity of “trans.”
Ten days after this conversation, I began to journal, my goal being to capture my feelings in real time.
Inside My Husband’s Closet is the story of the first year after my husband went into the closet, hiding who he was from everyone but me. He requested that I join him there and not discuss his decision with others.
Having been an ally to others in the LGBTQ+ community for many years, I thought I would understand what lay ahead. I did not.
