TRANScestors: Navigating LGBTQ+ Aging, Illness and End of Life Decisions

Volume IV: Generations of Challenge

Edited by Jude Patton and Margot Wilson

Studies indicate that LGBT+ people are still discriminated against in most health care settings and in long term care facilities despite advances made in the past few years in gaining more rights.

Evaluating physical and mental health care needs, facilitating access to health care providers and advocating for clients’ rights as well as end of life decisions and planning for personal legacy options are important aspects of navigating LGBTQ+ aging.

Having served as a health navigator for clients with chronic illness and offering end of life doula services to LGBTQ+ community members, Jude Patton collaborates with and advocates for his clients to successfully manage their health care needs. Jude is a proud, open and out, elder trans man, who has worked with under-served populations for most of his career, including LGBTQ+ folks, geriatric clients, developmentally disabled adults, homeless/chronically mentally ill and drug addicted clients.

TRANScestors is planned as a series of edited volumes that address the issues of LGBTQ+ aging, illness, and end of life decision-making and will be published by TransGender Publishing. Additional volumes include: Volume I: Generations of Hope, Volume II: Generations of Change and Volume III: Generations of Pride.
