Unconditional Love: Stories of LGBTQ+ People and Our Emotional Bonds with Companion Animals

Edited by Jude Patton and Margot Wilson

Our experiences with marginalization often affect our feelings of self-worth. While many people in our lives are unable (or unwilling) to provide the emotional support we need before, during and post-coming out, or transition, our companion animals never fail to see us as we truly are and never fail to express their unconditional love for us.  No wonder we love them and derive multiple benefits from our relationships with them. They are woven into the fabric of our lives. Unconditional Love is planned as an edited reader that tells the stories of how the unconditional love of (and for) our companion animals has supported, encouraged, confirmed, validated, endorsed and sanctioned our authentic selves. Our reading audience includes those in the LGBTQ+ community who have found sanctuary and validation in the love shared with our animal companions as well as those in the broader community who revel in the company of our non-human loved ones.
